2015 Primary Music DVD

Here it is! 2015 Primary music DVD. (Thank you to my WONDERFUL hubby). I will show this to my kiddo's tomorrow to introduce the songs for the year. I will be using a movie theme for 2015 and playing/spotlighting each song with a red carpet and "Song Premier" at the beginning of each month. I will be making a copy of these for each child and during the month of the "songs premier" I will be asking the children a question about the song at the end of singing time each week. If they watch their DVD they will be able to answer the question at the beginning of singing time the following week for a small treat. I am hoping this will help to make sure the kiddo's actually watch them this year.  I have saved this in drop box and can share it with anyone interested. Just let me know! Do you want to build a Snowman/Snowball Toss

Ok, for those of you just checking in, my husband gave me a challenge this morning to plan and prepare singing time using only supplies that I have on hand. He reminded me that I spend money each week preparing for my activities and that not everyone cares to do that. I really don't spend that much but I do usually buy something each and every week. So, to make a long story short, I took the challenge and I am proud to say I was able to accomplish this weeks activities without spending a dime!!!

This first one will be for Jr. singing time. I got my inspiration for this one while my sweet granddaughter was watching this popular video this morning and singing her little heart out, "Do you want to build a snowman?" 

Ah, light bulb moment, I had a theme, now to build on it! I looked around and was able to find a poster board in my closet, for something simple, I could draw the outline of a snowman and then have the kiddo's add on the face, scarf, hat with songs on the back, etc, BUT the key word there, is simple, and unfortunately, I don't usually make things simple for myself. So, I made a big old batch of this white play doh. I found the recipe on this site Here

I then made this chart here on my poster board that I found: As the children roll the dice they will earn the pieces to build their snowman. Each number or roll has a specific song and piece associated with the number.

When we are all done we should have this as our finished product:

For Sr. we will be having a "Snowball Toss" team challenge. Here are the supplies needed for this one:I took a couple cans of old food storage, which happened to be flour that I could use for my play doh as well, and emptied out the rest.

I will break my kiddo's into two teams. I will make a line with masking tape in the middle and place a bucket for each team about 7 feet away from the tape, one on each side. We will decide which team starts first. (guess number, sing off, etc.) The starting team will come up and pick a snowflake, the snowflake will have the song number on the back and a number ranking from 1-3. If they sing well then whatever number is listed is how many snowballs (marshmallows) that they get to try and toss into their bucket, there will also be snowflakes with Freeze on them, which will mean they loose their turn, there will be some snowflakes that say bucket upset, which means you loose all your snowballs and the other extra choice will be snowball fight, if a team draws this one then they have a roll off using a dice, with the other team. Whoever has the highest number gets to take a snowball from the other teams bucket.
Object: Be the team with the most snowballs at the end of singing time!!!


These are the activities I have planned for tomorrow using only supplies I had on hand. Not a single penny spent today, YAY! I am so proud of myself. Thank you all for stopping by, I hope this helps anyone that might be in need! Happy Singing tomorrow!

The Challenge

Happy Saturday! I hope everyone had an AWESOME Thanksgiving with lots of friends, family and FUN! I know it was wonderful and warm here at my house! Who could ask for anything more! Along with a busy holiday weekend I am sure most of you find yourselves like I do this morning, asking that weekly question that seems to come so quickly these days, What should I do for singing time tomorrow? As I laid in bed contemplating the answer to this this morning, my sweet hubby gave me a challenge. He said, "why does it always have to be something so hard, make it simple." He then brought to my attention that I spend money on my calling every week and that not everyone can do that. He challenged me to see if I could do singing time this week without spending a dime! I was like, "Oh no you didn't? I LOVE a challenge and you will not win this! So, here I am, no ideas on what I am going to do tomorrow, but I have been CHALLENGED, and I must WIN!! This will be FUN and I am so excited to take all of you along with me on this journey in the life of  last minute chorister prep! I will walk through my home and find items that I can use to put together my singing time. I will share photos and by this afternoon I WILL have a FUN singing time put together without spending a DIME!!! At this point I have nothing, but my wheels are turning, check back in through out the day to see what I have come up with! This is going to be interesting but an adventure in itself!

Turkey, Turkey, who has the Turkey

 Happy Thursday everyone!! Wow, can you believe how fast this month is going. How can it already be the 20th. Christmas will be here before you know it and I am just not ready at all! Where has the year gone! I find myself reflecting on life this past week and how fast it seems to fly these days. I look around when I go into stores, on the internet, and everywhere and Thanksgiving has just disappeared before our very eyes. Time is flying and people are just jumping right along with it. I'm sorry but I can't keep up with the craziness of these times. I have to slow down. Things are getting crazy in this world around us. Traditions are going away, the importance of the family unit. I just can't accept this. Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful for all of the blessings our father has given us, a time to slow down, take a breath and reflect on our lives and where we are going. If the world stops being grateful and forgets whats truly important, then we are all in trouble!!

I am grateful to my HF for all of the blessings in my life. For my beautiful family and for this gospel and the peace that it brings each and everyday! I am grateful for my Wonderful husband, who loves me and puts up with my craziness always, he goes to work and provides for his family so that I can stay home and take care of the needs that are there. I am grateful for my home for the food on my table each and every day/night. I am grateful that my children are all healthy, that we are all healthy. I am grateful to be able to pay my bills and help others in need. I am grateful for the beautiful world in which we live. I am grateful for all of my friends that love and support me always, I am grateful for the scriptures that guide me through my life, I am grateful for my calling, for music and the spirit that it brings......

That is my two cents for the week. Its so hard sometimes to live in this craziness and remember to slow down. To reflect and remember why we are here and whats really important!  I just wanted to take some time to share my thoughts with all of you before I share my ideas for the week. Ok, this has nothing to do with the game at all but I thought it was cute and FUNNY!!

I have a couple of cute ideas I found online this week. The first one I will be using in Jr. singing time. It is one you will all know and I took the idea from this AWESOME blog I found here. 
I thought this could be turned into a cute singing time and she has really adorable print outs you can download and use. Once on the site, you can scroll down until you come to the game, Turkey, Turkey, who has the Turkey. She also has cute print outs for Pin the waddle on the Turkey, you could adjust and use that one as well by just putting your songs on the waddles. I know my Jr kiddo's would love it.
 For the other game on her site I thought you could just have the kiddo's sit in a circle while someone is it and stands in the middle. While the kiddo's sing a song they pass the Turkey token around the circle while the child in the middle keeps their eyes closed. When the song ends, whoever has the token holds it really still and keeps it hidden. The person who is it in the middle then opens their eyes and tries to guess who has the Turkey. If they are right then they trade places with the child holding the token, if they are not right then they go one more time singing the same song. You can either use this to review one song or if you look on the blog she has leaves you could also print out and put your different songs on for your song choices.

This next one would be GREAT for Sr.  I did a similar activity for Mothers Day and the kids loved it so I know this one would be a big hit!! This one is called Roll A Turkey.

To start, I will split the kiddo's into two teams. I will print out and post the pic above as a reference.  I will actually cut out all body parts so that I can label each one with a different song.

As a team comes up on their turn they will roll. If they roll a one then they will grab their face part and sing the song on the back in order to earn the body part. Turn will then go to the next team. They will continue play to see which team can get their turkey built the fastest. (They have to sing well and participate to earn the part. Remember parts can be taken away if they aren't being reverent as well.)
Keep in mind, if they roll a one and have already rolled that on a previous turn then play automatically goes to the next team. I will be narrowing the feathers down to 4 and hoping we can make it through in our 20 short minutes.

Gratitude Charades/Turkey Hunt

Happy Thursday, yah, that's not right is it? Oh my, it is FRIDAY and my brain is still a day behind... LOL, sometimes we just have to laugh at ourselves, or maybe I'm the only one that does that. It seems to be getting more frequent these days. I am TOTALLY loosing it...

I have been having a few sleepless nights this past week and my mind has been whirling with idea's for singing time. I thought I would post a couple today and then save a couple for next week.

This first one would be good for Sr. Singing time. Its way simple, no prep! Woo Hooo, we all like those days, right? This one is just your basic charades but with a Gratitude twist to it.

For starters, you will have the kiddo's write a primary song that they are grateful for on a small slip of paper. You will then collect those in a cute basket and then the game begins.

You will pick a child to come up, draw a gratitude song out of your basket, and try to do actions so the kiddo's can guess the song. You can bring a basket of simple props they can use if needed and they can choose one helper from the group to help them out. Once the song is guessed then they sing it.

I don't know about you but my kiddo's like a challenge so I am going to put a spin on this and say they have to guess and sing at least 6 songs before the end of singing time. I will probably give a small reward at the end if they can make the challenge. (a hershey kiss, starburst, etc)

Click, Save and Print

This next one is PERFECT for Jr. singing time and very low prep as well:)  We will be having a Turkey Hunt. Turkey Lurkey and his fellow, feathered friends have all escaped and the dinner crowd will soon arrive. You must find them before it is tooo late.

For this one, I will hide 7 Turkeys around the room before the kiddo's come in. Each Turkey will have a song and page number on the back. For props I will use a large foil baking pan, a chefs hat and a large spoon.

To begin, I will tell the kiddo's that it is almost time for our HUGE Thanksgiving feast and our Turkey's have all escaped. They have to help me find them before the end of singing time.

I will then choose one helper at a time to find a Turkey. Once a Turkey is found we will place it in the foil pan and then sing the song on the back while another helper puts on the Chef's hat and directs the music with the BIG spoon!!

I think this is one they are going to LOVE and it's so, so,  SIMPLE!!!! I LOVE Jr singing time. They are so cute and EASY to please.

Turkey Races/Mayflower Races

Happy Wednesday!!! I  have a couple of cute Thanksgiving Singing Time activities to share today. We won't be having meetings this week due to Temple dedication but I wanted to get these posted before time gets away from me. It seems with school activities, church activities and just plain simple life, I live in a whirlwind of craziness anymore. I am sure most of you can relate!!

Anyhow, I wanted to share these before it gets too late in the week. This first one (Mayflower Races)  would be fun for either Jr. or Sr. The prep is really, pretty simple. The hardest part is putting together your Mayflower paper boats, and even those are simple with the You Tube video I found today. You can find it on this site HERE

I would probably make about 12 of these for this activity. Here is the pic of the 2 I put together today. You can make these different colors and sizes if you prefer.

For this activity, you will want to make about 12 boats and put different page numbers on the flag. You can see that I did this in the pic above.

To start out, you will call up two children to race. They will each go to the dock and pick a boat and a straw. You will then have them put their boat down on the table to get ready to race.

At go, they will blow their Mayflower boat with their straw, whichever boat crosses the finish line first is your winner and song to be sung.

I will then put the loosing boat aside and if there is extra time you can race the loosing boats against each other at the end!!

This next activity can be used in a few different ways. I started teaching "Could I Hold the Baby" for our Christmas program on the 14th, so I will be using this as a motivator for my kiddos. This one is "Turkey Racing" and can be used for Jr. or Sr. primary.

To start out I made this board here:

I will have the Jr. primary race against me to see who can get to the finish line first. To do this, they just have to sing well and participate and they will get to roll a dice and move their turkey along throughout singing time.  If they get to where they are not being reverent and not participating, then I get to roll and move my turkey along. The turkey who makes it the farthest is the fastest at the end and wins the race. (they love this stuff and totally win every time)
For Sr, I will have the boys racing the girls. If the boys do well, then they roll, if the girls do well then they roll. If they get irreverent, then I roll and move them backward.
So simple yet the kids really love it and it keeps them focused and I have full participation the whole time!!! To me, that is music to my ears!! Nothing feels better, than leaving church on a Sunday and knowing the kids LOVED singing time that day!!

Turkey Shoot Motivator

Happy Saturday!!! I have been so slow getting things done lately! We had stake conference last week and it has totally thrown off my schedule! Next week we will be having the Phoenix temple dedication so I will have another week of no primary! Ugh, it's so hard for my brain to get back on track these days. I think I am getting OLD!!!
 Anyhow, I did come up with a few cute ideas for the month. I will be sharing the activity I am using tomorrow as a motivator to actually begin teaching the Christmas song the kiddo''s will be singing in Sacrament meeting on the 14th of December. I really can't believe I am starting Christmas anything at this point but I know it will be here quickly and since we will not be having meetings next week due to the dedication,  I have decided to jump the gun here a bit and get started.

I will be teaching the song "Could I Hold the Baby" off of the LDS.ORG site. It is a beautiful song and I am so excited to teach it. I am going to add some simple actions to help the kids remember the words. I will also be using a flip chart that was shared on the Facebook Chorister site as well.

Ok, so, since it is November, and I totally dislike how the stores have skipped over Thanksgiving and jumped right into Christmas, I now find myself doing the same thing starting our Christmas song already. I have decided for my activity/motivator tomorrow,  I will be adding some Thanksgiving to the mix. A little Christmas, a little Thanksgiving:) I will be having a good ole "Turkey Shoot" to keep the kiddo's motivated while learning a new song this soon after the program.(I don't like doing that to them)

For this Motivator I will be hanging Turkey Tom on one end of the room. This is the one I made:

Inside Tom is a small piece of paper naming a location in the room where a small treat has been hidden. I also made this Arrow.

I hot glued a needle to the tip. This arrow will start on the opposite side of the room from Tom. As the kiddo's sing and participate, the arrow will gradually make its way across the room towards the Turkey. If they are not reverent and not participating, then I will move the arrow back a few inches. The object of course, is to get the arrow all the way to the Turkey and "Shoot, or "POP" him before the end of singing time so that the treat location is revealed.

These are the cute little treats they will then be receiving for their hard work and dedication:TURKEY TOES!!

"Spooktacular" Singing Activities for the month of October

BOO! Ha, I am such a dork. However, I do have a couple of really cute ideas I am putting together for singing time on the 26th and I wanted to share those with all of you. I can't believe it is already the middle of the month. Where does the time go? One minute I'm loosing sleep with program jitters and the next minute it is over and I'm planning Halloween. Before you know it I will be teaching the Christmas song I want to have prepared when they ask us to sing for the Christmas party.  I can't even believe how fast it all comes and goes these days!

Well, moving right along with everything else,  I have a couple of cute ideas I will be doing with Jr/Sr on the 26th. They are both very simple but FUN and CUTE and I think the "little monsters" are going to love them.

The first one I have for you is for Sr. primary. It will be called MR BONES!!! hahahaha, that is my scary laugh even though you can't hear it:)

PREP RATING: 4
ACTIVITY: MR. BONES 


For prep on this one you will want to go to the dollar store and grab some dog bones like these: You will want different shapes and sizes. I will be doing 8 of them.

On the bones, I will be writing page numbers of the songs I want the kiddo's to sing. I will then be hiding these around the room before singing time begins.
For the next step you will want to cut out a couple of these cute guys: Here

To start out the game, I will split my kiddo's into two teams. I will have a child come up and find a bone hiding in the room. The song we will sing is on the bone. I will then pick a child to come up from each team. Once they are ready, we will start singing the song on the bone. The two children will race to see who can put Mr. Bones together before the end of the song. Whichever child is closest or finishes first wins a point for his/her team.

I know some of you don't like the competition. You can play this just by seeing if a child can put Mr. Bones together before the end of the song. This will take out the competition part of it and I think the kiddo's would still enjoy it.

At the end of singing time whichever team has the most points is your Mr. Bones Champs for the day!!!


This next game I have for you is perfect for Jr. Singing time. I will call this one Singing "Pumpkin Patch."

This one will be pretty simple. I am going to grab a few of these mini pumpkins from the grocery. I will probably do about 7-8 of them. On the bottoms I will write the page number of my songs like pictured below.

I will then sit these on the table at the front of the room. The next step will be taping down a circle of Halloween pics. The ones I will use are below. If you want to use them you can just click, save and print mine, or you can make up some of your own.

 

I will tape each of these pics to the floor in a circle. To play: I will have a child come up and pic a pumpkin from the patch. This will determine our song. Then I will choose a child to come up and stand on the pics taped to the floor. The pianist will play a song and when she stops the child will stop walking. Whatever pic they land on will determine how we sing the song on the pumpkin. I will have them as follows:

Dressed up girls: Girls sing
Dressed up boys: Boys sing
Vampire: Sing with your teeth pointed out like vampire teeth
Bat: Flap like a bat while you sing
Scary Tree: Sway in the wind like a scary tree when you sing
Frankenstein: Walk in place like Frankenstein when you sing
Ghost: OOOOO the words
Witch: fly on your broom when you sing or sing in your best "witchy" voice

Hooray!!!

I just want to take a minute out of my day and say YAY!!! Our program was AWESOME yesterday! I absolutely LOVE my kiddo's. They did a WONDERFUl job and I am so proud of each and every one of them! Everyone was in tears on the last song. It was just WONDERFUL! I am so blessed to have this calling and teach the music to these beautiful children of our HF! I just wanted to share this because I am one proud PRIMARY CHORISTER today and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this calling.

"Slimey Songs"

Good Morning Everyone!!! Ok, it is afternoon already but my brain is telling me it's still morning (yawn!) I just wanted to throw out another quick singing time idea for the month of October. I did this with Jr./Sr. last year and they really loved it! It's way simple with a PREP RATING of about 2 and a FUN rating of about 10:)

We all know how kiddo's LOVE slime. For this activity I just made me up a big "ole" batch and threw me some plastic creepy crawlies in there from the Dollar Tree. The page numbers for the songs were written on each creature and the kiddo's had to come up on their turn and dig one out. It's simple, FUN and messy!  You may want to have a roll of paper towels or wipes handy for this one.


SLIME RECIPE:
1 C CORNSTARCH
1 C WATER
FOOD COLORING OF CHOICE

ADD MORE WATER AND CORNSTARCH AS NEEDED TO GET THE CONSISTENCY YOU WANT!

"Singing Spiders"

Happy Tuesday! It seems like forever since I have been on here. We are on the home stretch folks. Our program will be this week!!!EEEKKK! I can't believe it is here!! I was so proud of myself for staying so calm and now, AAAAAA, I am starting to panic a little bit! The kids know the songs so I don't know what the deal is but I was up until 2AM going over the finishing touches in my head! We will have a Saturday rehearsal and then that is IT. 2014 done!!!

I thought I would take a time out today, slow down and share a couple of cute Halloween ideas with all of you. My heart just hasn't been in it lately. So many changes and so much of LIFE going on, that I have been a bit of a HOT MESS, I must say! I did run away with my family and some friends to Mexico over my kiddo's fall break last week. It was a horrible thing to do to my presidency but sometimes we just need to RUN! (I did have a bishop tell me that years ago and I will never forget it:) We know our own limits and sometimes we need to just SLOW down and take a breath. Look at the beauty all around us and remember why we are really here, and what's really important! Here's an AWESOME talk by Utchtdorf about this exact thing!  Of Things that Matter Most

While laying in bed awake until 2am this morning, I decided on a couple of cute games I will be using this month for singing time. The first one will be for Jr. primary. It will be called "Singing Spiders."

PREP RATING: 3-4
ACTIVITY: SINGING SPIDERS

For starters you will need to print out some of the cute little music notes from above. (just click, save and print) These will be your singing spiders. You will then want to add a song to the back of each spider.
On the day of the activity you will need a few minutes of prep time to set up in the primary room. I will be making a spider web on the floor like this one HERE
You will then place your cute little spiders around the web. I will have a "bigger" spider in the middle of the web. The Object of the game will be to save the "singing spiders" from the "BIG" spider in the middle. On a child's turn, they have to stay on the lines of the web and walk to one of the singing spiders, they have to bend over and grab it without falling off and bring it back to me. The whole time, being careful not to fall off of the web. We will then sing the song on the spider. I will make an action dice to go along with this as well. It will have things on it like: Ooooo the song like a ghost, spider crawl, sing like a witch, pumpkin spin, the Frankenstein walk and flap like a bat.



For Sr. primary I will be scraping up some brains, guts and gore and doing this activity HERE

I will put each song number on a plastic spider and other creepy crawlies from the Dollar Tree. The kiddo's will have to reach into a box of EWWWW and pull out a creature with a song on it. I will use the dice that I used with Jr and combined it with another dice that has girls, boys, blue eyes, brown hair, etc. So, they could roll a boys sing doing the spider crawl:) FUN!
