"Gone Fishin" Competition

This week, in honor of our dear Fathers, I thought we would do a little "Fishin Competition" in SR primary. This could easily be adapted for Jr as well by making a separate set of fishies for the pond and eliminating the competition.
This is the set up!!
To start out I made up a few cute little props. I cut a cardboard flap and made up a "Gone Fishin" sign that I will be hanging above the chalk board. I had a cute little fishing net that I placed Mr crab in and then I added my good ole fishin hat. Who can go fishing without a hat? I will have the kiddo's put this on when it is their turn to catch a fish.
For the fish pond I am just using an old blue sheet that we don't use anymore and for my fishing pole I am using the bottom half of my sons fishing rod. You can use a dowel or stick if you don't actually have a pole to use. For the rod I tied a piece of curling ribbon and hot glued a magnet to the end of the ribbon.
For my fish I went to "free fish clip art" on my computer and printed them out. You can click, save and print mine pictured here if you would like. You will need a few print outs of each fish.

After printing your fish you will need to add a paper clip to each one so that they can be "caught" by the magnetic fishing rod!!
On the back of your fish you will need to get creative! I will be using the songs that we have been learning for the program. You can also throw in some good oldies as well.  For my fish, there will be sing the song, name that tune (I will bring a dice for them to roll to determine how many notes for these ones) fill in the blanks, and answer the question about the song.

                                                                                                            "Fish Basket Upset"

On the back of some of the fish I will be writing "Fish Basket Upset" along with the song. When a team catches this fish they will get to roll my dice numbered 1-3. This will determine the number of fish they get to take from the other teams basket and add to their own, if they do a good job singing the song.

                                                                                                                  "BAIT"
Another fun spin I have added is the BAIT can. On the back of some of your fish with a song included, you will write the word BAIT! If a team catches this one, they have to take a worm from the BAIT can and sing the song in the way that is listed on the worm. My ideas for this are:
1. Sing the song making Fish lips
2. Sing the song like you are under water. (To do this move your finger up and down on your lips as you sing.)
3.Sing the song while swimming in place
4.Squirm like a fish while singing the song
5.Stinky Fish: Plug your nose while singing

This is Mr. Worm. Just click, save and print if you want to use the same one I will be using. He fits perfectly in the cute little buckets you can find in the Dollar section at Target!

The OBJECT of the game: Be the team with the most fish in your bucket at the end of singing time and you are the Primary Fishing Champions for the day!! You can bring in some good old Swedish fish for a treat and send them home with a baggie for their father that says, I'm hooked on you:) HAPPY FATHERS DAY TO OUR WONDERFUL FATHERS and Happy Singing!!

UGH!!!!

Happy Thursday all!! Things have been so crazy in my life lately, I haven't had the time to sit down and really focus on my calling. I'm not sure about all of you but I am starting to feel overwhelmed and like things are getting away from me. Sometimes life is just so crazy!
I am just returning from the funeral of my darling Mother in law in Idaho. She was such a beautiful lady and a wonderful example on what the gospel is really all about. I have been pretty overwhelmed lately and have actually thought about being released.  After attending this funeral and listening as a letter was read  from a guy that had been a child in my Mother in Laws primary when she was president years ago,  I just couldn't bear to give up!! She was not only the president in their small ward but the Chorister as well. He talked about her love of music and how he knew every song in the primary songbook by the time she got done with him. She had a great love of music such as myself and I can only hope to touch these children's lives and influence them with the music as she did years ago!! I am grateful for this calling and I know my HF knows me and this is where I should be at this time. Please bear with me as I struggle along. Sometimes life just takes over and its hard for me to refocus but I always seem to get my feet back on the ground.

This week I will be starting "I Heard the Prophet"  and will be using a simple review game called "Bag it" to help the children get the words down. This is a cute game I found on this site Here
I think the kids will love this idea. I will shuffle them around, take bags off and move children to different places in the verse and have the kiddo's figure out which child was moved, etc.  I will just mix things up a bit and help the kiddo's get the song in their heads.
I will also be throwing in my Boom- Boom Balloon review game as a motivator. If they sing well they get to come up, roll the dice and push the poky's in according to their roll. We have really been drilling away since May and I want to keep the kids happy so I will let them try and "POP" the balloon before the end of singing time for a small treat!! This is a FAVORITE in Sr. primary!!

In closing this week I am also going to introduce the children to my Summer Singing Vacation!!!  For June we will be doing a Circus Singing Jubilee to review all songs up to this point and in July we will be doing a S'more Singing Camp review!! Stay tuned for these Summer singing adventures in the next few weeks!! Happy Summer Singing Everyone!!
